Content of Training

What should be included in MI training? Here again we wish to be conservative and stay close to what research has demonstrated to be important. We suggest four broad components that we believe should be represented in any comprehensive training regardless of format (see Box 24.1).

Motivational Interviewing Knowledge and Spirit

Most basic is up-to-date knowledge about MI. Providing that foundation is a primary purpose of this book.
